Abstract

In the context of digitalization of production and development of the Industry 4.0 concept, the optimization of production processes and the effective organization of production areas are gaining increasing importance. An essential task in the design of production systems is the optimal placement of the technological equipment in order to minimize the material flows, reduce transport distances and increase the efficiency of the production process. This task is further complicated in case of presence of alternative technological processes, allowing for different routes of parts processing.

Based on a developed model, an optimization problem is formulated in the present paper, aimed at minimizing the transport distances and the time for parts transportation during the process of production. To solve the problem, an algorithm, based on heuristic methods for searching for optimal equipment placement is proposed. Computational experiments have been conducted, which illustrate the possibilities for reducing the intra-production transport, and thus for more even loading of the machines and shortening the production cycle.

The proposed approach corresponds to the principles of the Industry 4.0 concept and creates conditions for integrating intelligent planning and optimization methods into modern production systems.
